DANCE 2 DEGREE

Dance 2 Degree is a Full Tuition-free Dance Study Curriculum for Girls
                                                  Grades 6 - 8    9 -12

Dancers must complete a two/four year study and accommodate a 3.0 G.P.A. to                receive a scholarship to an institute of higher learning.

Parents are responsible for dance attire and transportation to and from rehearsals and functions.

Goals are achieved across three principle elements:
Dance Education Fitness and Performance
The core conversion elements through which youth develop the ability to reach their full potential. Dance has the ability to encourage youth to think differently about themselves, to push through obstacles, and emerge as strong and confident leaders. By using the competencies of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) we are able to unconventionally weave life skills such as goal setting, dealing with emotions, empathy, and leadership into the curriculum. On the stage and dance floor, they feel supported and are able to embody who they really are.  On the dance floor, they feel supported and are able to embody who they really are.

WELCOME

We're Black Box Collective - and Yes, We're Kind of a Big Deal. 🎭

Black Box Collective African American Youth Theatre is Spartanburg, South Carolina's home for young performers, storytellers, and future stars. As a proud component of CM 99, an IRS 501(c) youth development organization, we work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade - because great artists come in every size.

How It All Started ✨

Back in 1999 , somebody had a vision. A big one.

The idea? Simple and powerful - every child deserves a stage. By 2024, 5.6.7.ate and Black Box Collective became a performing arts flex, and we've been making magic  ever since. Our mission has never wavered: bring the arts to the children of our community and the areas around us.

We stay busy. Like, always-preparing-for-the-next-show busy. And we love every minute of it.

Welcome to Black Box Collective African American Theatre! We're thrilled to offer an exciting range of programming for students of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re diving into a multi-week educational course, joining a fun one-time workshop, experiencing a summer camp, or participating in one of our spectacular productions, our passionate instructors are here to empower you with the skills you need to both on and off the stage. Let’s embark on this creative journey together!

What We Offer: We develop performers, storytellers, and creative thinkers at every age and every stage.

🎭 Performance & Acting

Where every voice finds its stage.

We train students in the full craft of performance - from foundational acting techniques and scene studies to full theatre productions. Our dialect coaching sharpens authenticity, movement builds physical presence, and improvisational comedy develops spontaneity and confidence. Clowning teaches students to connect with audiences through pure, unscripted joy.

🎬 Technical Arts

The magic behind the curtain.

Great storytelling lives in every detail. Our technical arts programs train students in the craft of bringing a production to life - designing props and sets, creating costumes and makeup, operating lights and sound, and telling stories through film. These hands-on skills build creative problem-solvers and future industry professionals.

✦ Prop & Set Design ✦ Costuming & Makeup ✦ Light & Sound Workshops ✦ Film Making

⭐ Special Programs

Beyond the ordinary.

We push the boundaries of what performance looks like. Our circus arts program builds strength, discipline, and spectacle. LARP deepens storytelling through immersive world-building. Audition workshops prepare students for real-world opportunities, and private lessons deliver personalized coaching at every skill level.

🌟 Youth & Early Childhood

Big dreams start young.

We meet young performers right where they are. Our full-time PreK program welcomes children ages 3-5 into a creative, nurturing environment. Preschool day camps, summer camps, and homeschool enrichment programs give young learners joyful, imagination-driven experiences that build confidence, communication, and a lifelong love of the arts.
